Customer Reviews

I have had 2-3 other GPS units for my SUV over the years such as Garmin, and Megellan. I believe this one works as well as the other units in terms of showing your position on the map, re-calculating your route and general information on the screen. Searching for location and displaying POI's is on par with similiar GPS systems. Where the TN30 is better than the other units is it offers Bluetooth hands free calling on my cell phone. The unit paired right up with my phone and the sound is loud and clear. The other nice feature is the spoken street names. I really like knowing the exact street to turn on when in a new or unfamiliar location. I can glance at the street sign an know for sure this is my turn. I would have given it five stars but Motorola does not have a map update for their GPS units at this time and mine came the NavTeq maps from the first quarter of 2008 (NT 2008.Q1). You can find other units with newer maps or map updates from the manufacturer. With no updates available yet it makes me wonder the commitment of Motorola in the GPS market. Map issues aside, overall I am very happy with the product.

OK, first off I am not a Motorola employee or any ways associate with Motorola. I bough this GPS from Wrt for a trip for $ 160, knowing that it does not have good reviews around the internet. I also planned to return it if it give me any problems on my trip. I have owned several previously, Garmin, Mio, even a Harman Kardon. I also used a naviagation system in a Lexus.
What a surpise. The unit locked on sattelite signals in less than 10 seconds and so easy to use. One hick up: it lost the route (I had to reprogram it) after I deliberately made several turns. After that, it performed flawlessly. It did picked the shortest route to my destination. Text to speech was clear and it announced all names for a road (FM xxx, xxx blvd, state highway XXX). Whenever possible, it even displayed the speed limit! It started telling to turn 1 mile before, half mile, 0.2 mile then at the intersection. This GPS unit is very accurate, I checked it several times when I crossed the intersections and it was always right on it. And I could find several restaurans on my trip just fine.
I will test the bluetooth function next, but navigation was the most important thing and this unit passed with flying color.
I have no idea why it received such a bad rap. Whoever gave it negative marks must not know how to use the thing. I liked it a lot more than my old Garmin 370. Its 4.3" screen is clear and wide and displayed a lot more map details. Especially the low price of $ 160 for a device with so many features.
